Sympathetic to Satan

Describing himself, True Father once said, “There is nothing he hates, because he likes everything. He likes every kind of taste of life. He is even sympathetic to Satan. In a way, Satan is amicable. Satan has done a great job. He has changed the course of the history of God.”

Sympathy for the devil! And True Father put the burden on Abel for the fact that Cain killed him: “Abel should have separated himself from Satan, or Cain; and then come into the love of God; and then by feeling and experiencing God’s grief and his brother’s grief should have been willing to sacrifice himself in place of them and save his brother. …Instead of being arrogant, Abel should have been willing to die for Cain.”

So those who are blessed by God—your blessing is not for yourself! It is for Cain, for the sake of saving the ones who are “in satanic bondage,” and who get very upset at being told that!

Let’s examine the defining characteristics of Cain. He has worldly position and success. He is doing is absolute best. He is brilliant, highly effective, hard-working. But he just can’t solve society’s problems. Everything should work, but it doesn’t.

Cain sees Abel, who has no position or success. Abel is happily blessed by God, and he doesn’t seem to appreciate Cain’s hard work and theories. Grrrr!

Now, why does God love the unsuccessful, incapable Abel? True Father once gave an interesting explanation:

“In our families, the parents feel much more care and love for the inferior son. They feel much more care for him than for the superior or the one who is very capable. God feels the same way.”

Cain lacks parental heart. He sees Abel as a rival, as the cause of all the troubles. Abel is an obstacle, so violence is justified.

And the more righteous Cain is, the more he is stuck. Consider the Principle’s teaching on how the religious leaders justified the crucifixion of Jesus, who “had to minister to the dregs of society and associate with sinners, tax collectors and prostitutes”: “The priests and scribes [believed] that they had done a righteous deed by eliminating a dangerous heretic and blasphemer.”

Far from rendering judgment, Principle counsels: “Recognizing that similar events may occur in the Last Days, each of us should seriously examine ourselves.”
